In recent meetings with U.N. weapons inspectors, Iranian officials rejected as “fabricated” top-secret evidence that U.S. officials have said proves that Iran has tried to develop advanced nuclear weapons, the U.N/s nuclear watchdog said Friday. The evidence was gleaned largely from a laptop computer that was spirited out of Iran in 2004 and obtained by U.S. intelligence agencies. The laptop’s contents have been in the hands of the U.N.’s International Atomic Energy Agency since the summer of 2005, but it was on in late January that the United States and other countries authorized the IAEA to show some of the evidence to Iran. LC Editor’s Comment: The Bush administration, apparently still desparate to find any excuse possible for carrying out an air bombardment Iran’s nuclear reactor fuel research and development facilities, has once again pulled its old, worn often-used laptop rabbit out of its obsessively lying NeoCon hat and attempted to sell it to us once again as new goods. But, alas, it turns out to be again --- sure enough --- that old, de-fuzzed, shopworn, velveteen, Big Lie bunny with one glass eye about to pop out we’ve seen so many times before and rejected as a false rabbit. Shameful behavior on your part, Mr. Bush!

It’s no surprise that Iranian officials rejected the top-secret evidence the administration claims it contains and rejected the evidence as false. Well, there's some semi-good news. Our courageous National Intelligence Council has just judged [.pdf] "with a high degree of confidence" that Iranian authorities had already halted, way back in 2003, what the NIC inexplicably still characterizes as a covert "nuclear weapons program." Some details of that alleged program, obtained from the hard-drive of a laptop computer, allegedly stolen in Iran in 2004, had been supplied to us a few months later, apparently by the same wonderful folks who had earlier supplied us the "intelligence" on Iraq, obtained by them from "Curveball."
